You should become a voter so that you can elect to
your Councils the men and women whom you think can
best serve your community.
3How do you become a voter for both Regional and Local
Government elections?
If your name is not already registered in the printed
Register of Electors you must register in January, 1957.
In order to register you must be EITHER a native of a
Division, 21 years of age or older, or a tax or Local
Government rate payer:
OR if you are a non-native of a Division you must have
had at least two years’ continuous residence there, and
you must have paid tax or Local Government rates for
at least the same two years.
4You should go to your nearest Registration Office and
apply to have your name registered as a voter.
Women, as well as men, can register for voting.
5)How will you know how to find your Registration Office?
Posters will mark the building nearest to your home
where registration will take place.
Each Registration Office will be
marked with this special symbol:
In many places the school nearest to your home will be
your Registration Office.
Only persons who are already shown in the printed
Register, and who register in January, 1957, will be able
to vote in the 1958 Local Government Council elections.
When you fill in your application form at the Registra-
tion Office, write both your first and second names and
your home address as well. If you do not write at least
two of your names and-your address on the form you will
not be registered as a voter.

of all men and women who have registered at your Registra-
tion Office will be on show at that office.

the list. If there are any mistakes in the list or if you

find your name on the list, you must tell the officer in
charge of your Registration Office.

=
that no claims or
objections can be made after the 15th March, 1957. When
the final corrected list of voters has been Printed, you
will see it on or before Ist November, 1957, at your Regis-
tration Office where you filled in your forms.
9You will only be able to vote in the 1958 Local Government
Council elections if your name is on the voters’ list. This list
is called the register of electors.
When the elections are being held, you should try to vote
early in the day. If you go late, you may have to stand
in queues for a long time.
If your name is found on the register of electors you will
be given a ballot paper
10You will then go into a Polling Booth alone. There you
will find the ballot boxes.
